The function of National Commissions is to involve in UNESCO’s activities the various ministerial departments, agencies, institutions, organizations and individuals working for the advancement of education, science, culture and information, in each Member State.

The National Commissions cooperate with their governments and with services, organizations, institutions and individuals concerned with questions within UNESCO’s competence; Encourage participation of national, governmental and nongovernmental institutions and various individuals in the formulation and execution of UNESCO’s programmes;   
                                                       Disseminate information on the objectives, programme and activities of UNESCO and endeavour to arouse public interest in
                                                       them.

The United Nations Environment Programme - Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean

The United Nations Program for Environment has the task of leadership and encourage partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing and enabling nations and peoples ways of improving the quality of life without compromising those of future generations.

The regional office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC) located in Panama City works closely with the 33 countries of the region - including 13 small island developing States, with a population of about 570 million people. The office works to serve the needs of the region and its activities are integrated into the work programs approved by the Governing Council of UNEP
